Dawn of a New Day, is based on the true story of a man named Kagaya and his 3 year struggle to create "VHS" or the "Video Home System." Kagaya is an excellent engineer and somewhat content with his position at his current job. However, he his told by his superiors he is to head up the worst division in the company he works for, but all Kagaya wishes to do is research and development. Regardless, he takes his new position and decides to make a change in it. He easily relates to his staff who are not college graduates and those who truly enjoy engineering. He even memorizes the name of each of his staff members. During this time, his division is in danger of being shutdown and rather than following along with his company's plan, Kagaya makes the decision to begin developing a new video system. His biggest roadblocks throughout his 3 year venture, were an associate named Okubo, financial problems, and the "Betamax." Kagaya manged to gain the trust of Okubo and even devised a plan to sell merchandise until his VHS was completed. He faced an even bigger problem upon completion of his protoype, which was lighter and could record longer than the Betamax. He needed people to endorse his VHS, which he dreamed the entire world would use. Through persistence though, his dream came to realization.
The story of Kagaya is an inspirational one. He sacrificed a great deal of time with his family and risked his job to develop the VHS. It shows that if you put yourself entirely into your dreams, along with perserverance and some proper planning, they can also come to realization.
