The movie starts out with a man who is promoted to a new department and is head of the VCR department. The job is dull but Kagaya becomes inspired to turn things around and make a change. He comes up with the idea of building a new and more improved technology called the "Betamax". But with the idea of his new creation, he runs into some struggles as the company forces him to downsize on the workers, and must compete with the Sony company. With his new position it has been nothing but struggles and conflicts. But Kagaya San never for a moment had any doubts in quitting, he was able to convice consumers that his product was the real thing, the light weight, and the ability to produce more time in the machine convinced everybody that his product is real.
At first I didn't know what to expect out of this film, I honestly thought it was a documentary to begin with but as I started getting into it, it became really interesting. I really liked the concept of this movie and the wholestory line to it. I thought it was interesting how Kagaya san came up with the idea of making a VCR (Betamax). I don't know much about VCR's since its a dead technology.
The role Kagaya san had was perfect. The struggles he was going through every day was real painful but yet you can tell that he would do whatever it took to turn the company around. In the beginning the department he got promoted to was real dull and there was nothing for him there but yet he didn't care, he had no problem with it. He treated everyone equally by relating to them. He was promoted to head of the department but yet he only had a high school degree like the rest of the workers. The head honcho told him they usually give the job to someone else with a college degree. He never fired a single person and had no ambition of doing so. His role was real inspiring and you could tell. He always stayed late and tried to work on the Betamax with the other workers, he never had any thoughts of quitting even when Sony came out with their new version of the Betamax. He always strived for his goal. His life was nothing but work and that affected his family life outside which brought more frustration but he was comitted to this project and wouldn't rest till it was done. He showed much appreciation to his employees and always assured them that he would make it work.
This movie was excellent and showed the audience that in life we should never give up the things we work for. Bumpy roads are part of the obstacle but we should always stay in control until we get to the end.
